School Caretaker
Diamond Harbour School is looking for a positive, practical and community-minded person to join our school as Caretaker. At Diamond Harbour, we see our grounds as an important part of our learning environment. We want our children to understand that looking after our school is something we all share responsibility for. Our caretaker has an important role in modelling this. We want someone who enjoys being around children, builds positive relationships with them and helps them learn how to care for their school and environment.
• Lawn mowing, trimming and general grounds maintenance
• Gardening, weeding and caring for trees and planting areas
• Keeping paths, playgrounds and outdoor spaces tidy
• Minor repairs and maintenance
• Rubbish and recycling
• Playground and property safety checks
• Looking after tools, equipment and machinery
• General seasonal maintenance
• Swimming pool care during the swimming season
• Working alongside students and encouraging them to take pride in and responsibility for their school environment
• Proven track record of working positively and appropriately with children and young people
• Is a positive role model for students
• Friendly, approachable and comfortable talking with children
• Takes pride in the school and its grounds
• Enjoys helping children understand the importance of caring for their environment
• Has the patience to involve and encourage children where appropriate
• Is practical, capable and happy getting their hands dirty
• Has good initiative and can see what needs doing without always being asked
• Is reliable and able to establish good routines
• Works well independently but also communicates well with the Principal and staff
• Understands the importance of safety when working around children
• Relationships, belonging and care for our environment are important parts of school life
• The caretaker is a visible member of the community
• Get to know the children and help create a school environment that everyone feels proud of
• Training and certification for pool care will be provided at the school's expense
• Support to gain testing and tagging certification
